YORKSHIRE ENGINEERING COMPANY REAPS THE REWARDS OF £350,000 INVESTMENT
Despite the downturn in the economy, Dewsbury based ramco cnc is reporting a steady stream of orders and – thanks to a massive investment in machines and software – is on course to grow the business and increase its workforce.

The company, part of the Richard Alan Group (a provider of comprehensive technical and engineering solutions), specialises in the manufacture of precision machined components and has a highly respected reputation in the CNC sub contract market.

Ramco cnc prides itself on providing bespoke engineering to match any customer requirement no matter how complex with competitive pricing on batch work from one to 10,000 and a rapid turnaround. All products are supported by a quality audited system, certified to ISO9001:2000 and also has a dedicated inspection department.

Its expertise ranges from comprehensive plant and facility maintenance services to medium scale fabrication plus the manufacture of pressure vessels and complex process equipment.

Since it was established as division of RAG eight years ago, ramco has grown from a one man band to a 17 strong workforce and over the past 18 months has invested £350, 000 in cutting edge CNC machinery making its workshops among the most modern in the region.

The investment includes:

  • Harrison Alpha 400 flat bed CNC lathe with 10” chuck
  • Doosan Daewoo Puma 400 slant bed CNC lathe with 18” chuck
  • Haas SL30 slant bed CNC lathe with 12” chuck
  • Haas SL20 slant bed CNC lathe with 10” chuck
  • Haas SL20 slant bed CNC lathe with bar magazine and collect chuck
  • Browne and Sharpe CNC CMM with 1000 x 600 granite bed QCT control
  • Feature Cam CAD/CAM package with 2.5D milling and two axis turning capability

The installation of this machinery has achieved a 30 per cent extra production capacity for ramco and has also enabled the company to extend its range of client services.

In addition, the company has invested in an Aventa management system provided by Redthorn Engineering Solutions to manage the production scheduling and administration of the business.

“We have built our success by providing the highest quality products and the very best customer service. The capability of our machinery, our highly skilled engineers and our excellent track record of meeting and beating customer deadlines plus competitive pricing has helped us to build our reputation.

“This recent investment helps to differentiate us from our competitors but we are always striving to improve our capability and systems of work as well as working hard to build and enhance relationships with our existing customers”, said Kevin Perree, general manager.

Ramco's main customer base, across all sectors including gas and oil, valve, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, hydraulics and defence, is currently in the M62 corridor but there are now rigorous plans for growth and expansion.

Although it is a very forward thinking company, ramco also maintains many traditional values and is a committed to a dedicated four year apprentice training scheme. This year it recruited two students from a local college in Huddersfield and expects to recruit two more next year.

“This is a highly skilled profession and it makes sense for us to offer proper, shop floor based apprentice training. And this works for our staff too. They come to learn, like what they learn and stay”, added Kevin.
